The Spirit Catches You and You Fall Down: A Hmong Child, Her American Doctors, and the Collision of Two Cultures - Anne Fadiman This was an amazing book. I'd read another book about the Hmong, The Latehomecomer: A Hmong Family Memoir, and enjoyed it very much. I told my roommate at the time about it and she gave me (let me borrow?) this one. She told me it was required reading for all social service agencies in our county due to our large Hmong population. I didn't have any idea that the book was about a famous medical case when I started. Anyway, this book is extremely well written, every word of it is interesting and engaging. Although overall it is a very unfortunate and sad account, there were many times I chuckled at certain misunderstandings or how off-base certain assumptions were. Hmong culture seems so rich and it's very fascinating.
